Legal right to short breaks for disabled children to be approved by Parliament
The Government has today (19 November 2010) asked Parliament to approve Regulations on Breaks for Carers of Disabled Children. From April 2011, the regulations will place a duty on local authorities to prepare a statement for carers on what services will be available in local areas and what criteria they will be accessed by. EDCM welcomes the regulations which come days after EDCM wrote to Government calling for clarity on eligibility criteria.
