Number of young people not in education or employment rises above one million again
The number of young people not in education, employment or training (Neet) has risen above the one million mark for the second time in the past five years.
According to latest quarterly government figures there were 1,026,000 16- to 24-year-olds classed as Neet between July and September this year.
This is an increase of 152,000 on the previous three months figures and is the second highest figure since 2005 when the quarterly Neet statistics for 16- to 24-year-olds were first recorded.
