Review of the Office of the Children's Commissioner for England
The Government has welcomed Dr John Dunford’s independent review of the Children’s Commissioner for England and his recommendations to change the role through legislation by strengthening its remit, powers and independence
Amongst his recommendations are that the Government changes the role as follows:
- increased powers - advising Government on new policies and undertaking an assessment of the impact of new policies on children’s rights, and a duty on Government and local services to issue a formal response to concerns raised by the Children’s Commissioner
- a strengthened remit - a new rights-based Children’s Commissioner for England
